President Biden spoke on Monday with the leaders of Egypt and Qatar as he sought to increase pressure on Hamas to accept a deal that would result in a temporary cease-fire in the war in Gaza and the release of some of the hostages held there. The Biden administration is trying to increase pressure on Hamas to accept the deal. Israeli officials said this week that they were willing to lower their demand for the number of hostages in an initial release to 33 from 40. Germany is a staunch ally of Israel and second only to the United States in providing it with military assistance. In its case, Nicaragua argued that Germany is facilitating the commission of genocide in Gaza and violating the Genocide Convention by providing Israel with military and financial aid. It had asked the I.C.J., the United Nations’ highest court, to issue an emergency order for Germany to stop providing arms to Israel and to ensure that those already supplied were not unlawfully used.

Israel’s conduct in the war has increased both international and domestic pressure on the German government to take a tougher stance toward Israel.

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel once again pledged to launch a ground invasion into Rafah, despite ongoing efforts to negotiate a cease-fire agreement in the war in Gaza. According to a statement from the office of President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi of Egypt, he and Mr. Biden discussed the negotiations and Egypt’s efforts to broker a cease-fire. They also reiterated their support for a two-state solution, discussed the importance of containing the conflict to the region and emphasized their opposition to a military escalation in the city of Rafah in southern Gaza, which Israel seems poised to invade.

They remain canyons apart on many issues, especially with Fatah demanding that Hamas dismantle its armed wing — a move that the militant group has repeatedly dismissed in the past. The Biden administration has called for a more technocratic Palestinian Authority, which is considered by many Palestinians to be authoritarian and corrupt, in the hopes that it could help govern postwar Gaza — an idea that Israel’s government opposes. Like other American officials, Ms. Jean-Pierre said that Hamas, not Israel, was the obstacle to an agreement. On Sunday, Mr. Biden spoke with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel. Lin Jian, a spokesperson for China’s Foreign Ministry, told a news briefing on Tuesday that representatives of Hamas and Fatah had “recently” held talks in Beijing and had agreed to continue a dialogue.

But Nicaragua and the rights groups have mentioned that Germany has delivered 3,000 antitank weapons, as well as items like spare parts for vehicles, which could be used as part of the ongoing military offensive even though they were described as nonlethal. Earlier this month, Nicaragua brought a case against Germany at the International Court of Justice, where it argued that Germany was violating the Genocide Convention by providing Israel with military and financial aid amid Israel’s military campaign in Gaza. On Tuesday, the I.C.J. decided against issuing an emergency order that would have required Germany to stop providing arms to Israel. Germany, a staunch ally of Israel, is the second-largest provider of military aid to the country after the United States. Even as the U.N.’s highest court declined to order Germany to stop sending arms to Israel, another lawsuit in a German court sought to cut off the flow of military aid.

The core mission of the organization is to highlight and share the rich cultural diversity of the land of our birth with our friends and neighbors at large around the Carolinas. We also strive to educate the community about public policy issues of particular concern to our community. The festival draws over 20,000 visitors from Charlotte and the surrounding areas. The best way to summarize the impact of the festival is to paraphrase a comment we have heard repeatedly during the festival. “This has been a great opportunity for me as a Charlottean to get a taste of Indian culture and experiencing and understanding a bit more about India without leaving Charlotte.

Its members said their favorite parts of being in the group were practicing together and the vibe they get from dancing. There are performances outside all day, and you’ll also find multiple food vendors and souvenir vendors outside, along Tryon Street, which is closed to traffic during the event. This festival is planned for Saturday, April 27, 2024, from 12 p.m.

Pilgrims purchase coconuts, sweetmeats, flowers, and incense for their ritualistic offerings. But there’s scant parking and vehicular access to the holy sites, so many pilgrims disembark and complete their travel by walking over parched and rocky terrain, sometimes barefoot and carrying children or luggage. Hindus believe Hinglaj Mata is one the places where the remains of Sati, the goddess of marital felicity and longevity, fell to earth after she ended her life. Organisers said they wanted the festival to spark "dynamic conversations and foster meaningful connections among participants".

Inside Belk Theater, enjoy dance performances on the main stage. In the lobbies you’ll find art exhibits, and interactive activities like turban tying (for $1), henna tattoos (for $3) and sari wearing (for $2.) And it creates an awareness of Indian culture among other communities in the Carolinas. In the end, Charlotte helped kick off a debate that’s still raging nationwide, but one that ultimately had a surprisingly short local shelf life. This government structure divides policy making and administrative functions between the city council and the city manager with the council responsible for the former and the manger responsible for the latter. HB2 is fascinating because, at the time, public sentiment was mostly with the city. Businesses, artists and sporting events boycotted the state because of HB2. Undeterred, the city wants to build another six miles of streetcar. The streetcar often gets blocked by cars that are illegally parked in its path. And ridership hasn’t met projections (although part of that is due to the city not running the trains frequently enough — though they did just increase frequency to every 20 minutes, from 30).

The authorities shut down the city’s Shannon Park neighborhood, east of downtown, on Monday afternoon after gunfire erupted in order to more easily move victims to hospitals, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department wrote on social media. As the police approached the shooter, Chief Jennings told reporters, the officers were met with more gunfire from inside the home. After a long standoff, two women in the home were taken to a police station to be interviewed, the police later said in a statement. The male suspect exited the residence on Galway Drive with a firearm. Law enforcement officers perceived an imminent deadly threat and fired their service weapons striking the suspect in the front yard of the residence. The primary governmental functions of the city include police, fire, street maintenance, water and wastewater utilities, parks and community development.

This month, two police officers were killed outside a home near Syracuse, N.Y., during a shootout after they were following up on a traffic violation. In all, four members of the task force were shot, three of whom died. The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction said in a statement that two of its veteran officers, Sam Poloche and Alden Elliott, were killed. The U.S. Marshals Service confirmed that one of its deputy marshals, Thomas Weeks, was among those killed.

Since 2001, he had been criminally charged more than four dozen times, on counts including breaking and entering, assault and possessing firearms as a felon, records show. Video of the standoff that was captured by another neighbor shows officers crouching by a vehicle and pointing their guns up at a red brick house. At one point in one of the videos, an officer tells another, “He’s looking at us,” seemingly referring to Mr. Hughes.

A 17-year-old girl and a woman were in the home on Monday during the shooting and have been cooperating with officials’ investigation, the police said. Chief Jennings said investigators were still piecing together a timeline of what had happened. Larry Mackey, a retired firefighter who lives close to the scene, said in an interview on Tuesday that he believed at least 30 minutes had passed between the first eruption of gunfire and a second burst of shots.

"We are forever indebted to Officer Eyer for his bravery and ultimate sacrifice," Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said in a statement. The president urged leaders in Congress to take action “to combat the scourge of gun violence” by banning assault weapons and high-capacity magazines and by passing universal background checks, among other measures. As is standard procedure with any officer involved shooting, the CMPD’s Internal Affairs Bureau will conduct a separate but parallel investigation. Upon securing the scene, the suspect was pronounced deceased at the residence. The deceased suspect has been identified as Terry Clark Hughes, Jr, 39.

"When a president visits a community there are a lot of things that we have to work on and work with the administration and ... the secret service in planning these types of events," Saffo said. "Where the events are held, the size of the venue, the locations, the motorcade to and from the airport − the logistics involved are enormous." The Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force is headquartered in Charlotte and comprised of 70 federal, state and local agencies. Fugitive task forces are collaborations between agencies to find and arrest suspects in crimes. The neighborhood, of one– and two-story, brick homes and small trimmed lawns, is very safe, said Alex Rivera, who lives on a street nearby. One other member of the task force, which is made up of federal agents and other officers from across the region was injured.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said Officer Joshua Eyer died Monday night from his injuries. Eyer had served the police department's North Tryon Division for six years, the department added. Marshals task force were pronounced dead, according to Jennings. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police later confirmed that the officer critically wounded in the shooting died at the hospital. After a "long standoff," Jennings said officers cleared the residence and took two people inside the home, including a 17-year-old, into custody for questioning.

Both paid $150,000 fines and were ordered to perform community service. Loughlin and her husband, fashion designer Mossimo Giannulli, were charged — along with dozens of others — for their part in a nationwide college admissions scandal, per Insider. What Happened To the Cast of 'Reba'?

Full House actor Lori Loughlin was released from prison Monday after spending two months behind bars for paying half a million dollars US in bribes to get her two daughters into college. "As an actress, I hear 'no' a lot, so I just have to be myself and persevere and try not to let in negativity," she explained. "My advice is to just keep moving forward. Everyone has good times and bad times. That’s life. I think you just have to pick yourself up. Nobody said life was going to be a breeze. There’s beauty in life, but there’s also hardship in life." "My family wasn’t one to hold grudges. I didn’t grow up in a household where if you made a mistake, you weren’t forgiven," she continued. "No one is perfect, we all make mistakes. So I was always told to let stuff go. And I think for your own health, you have to let things go because you can’t hang on to negativity. Life’s too short."

"Becky is in Nebraska helping out her mother," John Stamos' character Jesse Katsopolis said. "I don't want to bother her with a tiny little thing like this." This wasn't the first time that Lori Loughlin has spoken publicly since her jail time for the college admissions scandal, but the cover story for a magazine is certainly higher profile than some of her other platforms. On Tuesday, Netflix released the last-ever episodes of the beloved show. In the episode titled "Be Yourself, Free Yourself," Uncle Jesse (John Stamos) mentioned his wife Becky (Loughlin) for the first time since the actress's arrest in March 2019 for her involvement in the nationwide college admissions scandal.

Becky is first introduced to Danny as his co-host of their new show, Wake Up, San Francisco, in the episode "Tanner vs. Gibbler" (season 2). Becky and Danny maintain a good business relationship on the show, although they are like brother and sister once the cameras stop rolling. In the final season, Becky is promoted as Producer of Wake Up, San Francisco. Becky was born to Kenneth and Nedra Donaldson and raised in Valentine, Nebraska.

Becky is often seen giving advice and serving as a motherly figure to her three nieces. Whether it is about boys, love or growing up, Becky is always the first person to make sure her nieces are okay. Although she is not the greatest cook, Becky likes to help around the house. In the season four finale ("Rock the Cradle"), Becky discovers that she is pregnant. In season five, she gives birth to identical twin boys, Nicky and Alexander (Alex).

A typical country girl, she spent her childhood on her farm with her siblings Connie, Corkey and her three other brothers. Becky went to a very private all-girl school, resulting in her playing Romeo in the school play. At a junior-high picnic, Becky shared her first kiss with classmate Jimmy Stone, after they had won the three-legged race. Like the three Tanner girls, Becky was a member of a Honeybee troop. In "Another Opening, Another No Show", it's revealed that Becky was also a volleyball player. She appears in 152 episodes in Full House, beginning in season two, and 13 episodes of Fuller House.

Her husband, fashion designer Mossimo Giannulli, is serving his five-month sentence at a prison in Lompoc near Santa Barbara. While the scandal was breaking, she was dropped from When Calls the Heart on Hallmark as well as Fuller House on Netflix, with Fuller House explaining Aunt Becky's absence in a surprising way. It’s been three years since Lori Loughlin served a two-month sentence in federal prison for her part in the college admissions scandal.

Afterward, he realized he had to decide whether to pursue his costar or the model, he told InStyle in October. Before their trip down memory lane, the Scream Queens actor shared recently that there was once a possibility of romance between the two longtime friends.

Becky describes Jesse as the "best friend whom she married" and they tell each other everything. Becky is the more dominant and competitive person in the relationship and is always mocking Jesse about his obsession with Elvis and his hair. They like to challenge each other with bets but Becky usually always ends up winning. The two soon raise identical twins in which Becky thanked Jesse for giving her "The best day of her life". After Becky gets promoted as the show's producer, Danny was initially shocked before becoming extremely jealous to the point where he temporarily quits the show ("The Producer"). However, after an argument with her regarding her new co-host being a "laughing hyena", as well as finally admitting to being jealous, Danny explains that he has to accept it and that he will, knowing that she would do a really great job.

"But it's not going to be funny with some sort of thinly veiled surrogate. It only works if we get Lori. So we called her manager up, who loved it, and who then talked to Lori, and she said, ‘I'm in, I'm totally game.' And she was." "I'm not one to hold onto stuff. Stuff happens to everyone. We've all been in positions to ask for forgiveness but to ask for it, you have to learn and know how to give forgiveness, too." When asked how she deals with negative people in her life, Loughlin told First for Women she starts by being “kind” because you never know what someone else is going through. We’ve all been in positions to ask for forgiveness but to ask for it, you have to learn and know how to give forgiveness, too,” she said while discussing the power of moving on. Lori Loughlin was once best known to a generation of millennials for her role as Aunt Becky on Full House, which she reprised for the Netflix sequel series Fuller House. Back in 2019, however, the actress was involved in a college admissions bribery scandal that resulted in time behind bars. Now, years later, Loughlin has spoken out in her first big post-scandal magazine feature, and commenting on her ordeal involved dropping a line from Chumbawamba's most famous song. Her husband served a five-month sentence, along with a $250,000 fine, 250 hours of community service and a two-year supervised release, per Insider. The couple, who both served prison time for their involvement in the Varsity Blues college admissions scandal, paid $9.5 million in 2020 for the 1.5-acre estate in the gated celebrity haven in the west San Fernando Valley. Lori Loughlin's most memorable role in television may have been on "Full House," but her most notable role in real life was for her part in the college admissions scandal.

Hallmark cut ties with Loughlin amid the scandal and edited her out of Season 6. Loughlin has not returned to the Hallmark Channel, but has made additional appearances on the Great American Family network, including starring in the film “Fall Into Winter,” which aired in January 2023, and “A Christmas Blessing,” which premiered on Nov. 12. Stamos chose to pursue Romijn, now 50, and the former couple went on to date two months later, tie the knot in September 1998 and call it quits in 2004 after six years of marriage. "Lori is a genre-defining star that I have had the honor to call a close friend and collaborator for more than 15 years," said Bill Abbott, president and CEO of Great American Media, in a press release. "We have a shared vision for creating meaningful and memorable movies that resonate with our passionate fans, and I look forward to welcoming her back to Great American Family to anchor our 2023 winter programming slate."
